"This is the Democracy. Citizen, I command you to open your door."
"Oh god! Oh god! I can't believe its happening! Its happening!!"
*Banging on the door*
"This is your final warning!"
"Paul come here! Hurry!! Okay, now Paul, the thing we've always feared has become a reality. It's happening right now, we don't have any more time to prepare. Please, Paul, you need to escape. You will use the secret passage we've kept hidden, keep going down it. Just continue going, don't look back, don't think about what's happening. I won't give you away, just get away from here!"
"Okay Mom, I will *sniff* do whatever you want me to."
"Paul, just in case you don't see me again please remember: A memory never ceases, it always stays with you. You will always have the love that I had for you. Please, I can't let you be caught by them."
Paul goes into the back of their dwelling and finds the passage behind their fake wall. He digs his way into it and crawls to the point where the light from the entrance isn't shown. He continues going through the darkness, unsure of where he's going and where he's been. He realizes that he has nothing left to live for, nowhere left to go. He wonders where he will go. He never stops inching forward through all of this. He never stops emerging from darkness. The darkness never stops either, it follow him, it envelopes him. He continues to push through, paying no heed to anything he feels.
Paul finally breaks free of the tunnel. Blinded from the light he stumbles out of the hole, groping at his surroundings. He quickly realizes he is no where near the city by the prominent lack of smug and smoke. He finally gathers his senses, seeing where he is. He is safe, he is in the vast plains where the Democracy has yet to reach. He sees the beautiful meadows, soaked in grass and greenery. Possessed by nature. He climbs to the top of a hill, looking back at the direction he came. He can, barely, see the city in the distance. Its faded silhouette gleaming in the distance. Not yet showing the corruption that has taken hold of it.
Paul no longer thinks of the past that he came from. He, instead, travels onward, towards the great expanses. Whatever lay onward, he is sure he can overcome, whether the Democracy has reached it or not.
